Frequently Asked Questions
“Les œuvres d'Art de nosmaS ont transformé mon espace de vie. Chaque jour, je suis émerveillé par la beauté intemporelle que ces oeuvres apportent à ma maison.”
— Sophie D.
nosmaS, an artist who has been heavily influenced by modern media, creates bold collages on canvas that feature text-heavy poster clippings and strong, colorful images. His work has an urban rhythm that is as unique as the artist himself, and he has a good eye for discerning elements of graphic design that, when juxtaposed, gain a new, deeper meaning.
nosmaS's art, as he states, is “an Art of... modern and accessible everyday life... Art is in the street to anyone who will pay attention.” This is one artist who does pay attention. His work has an attitude, a flow that echoes the forces that comprise the heartbeat of cities, and he is not afraid to challenge his viewers with his startlingly honest collages. nosmaS's work has a brash, unrelenting sense of drama that is created by many conflicting, interwoven components. He creates art with a visual “voice” that cannot be unheard, and he is interested in taking his art to the next level through the creation of sculptures that involve collage.

Who is nosmaS ?
After an atypical course which began with high level sport, the Fine arts (School of Fine Arts) and the drawing, i entered the world of the media and the graphics arts where i managed several companies. While working in the business world, i found that my eyes were constantly caught by the graffiti and torn posters that adorned the walls i passed. These things are often called « visual pollution » but to me they said « photography » and photograph them, first, i did.
In time, in front of the programmed disappearance, with the arrival of the digital era and the digital display, i began to take some of theses olds posters as well, became a hunter, and this interest has blossomed into a theme of my work.
It is not a question of collage in the artistic sense (making a homogeneous whole with heterogeneous pieces) but of laceration (rediscovering what existed by being able to go back 10 years, without adding pieces of posters while respecting the place where they have been pasted). Each canvas mentions the location and the date of the original quest and the date of its final completion.
I want to make something creative and different out of these aspects of everyday life which we so often overlook, and yet which form a part of our lives that cannot be ignored. All the emotions, layers and context of the originals make it into my pieces, with some added understanding that comes from my personal vision. In this way i communicate with, and encourage my audience to engage with, an aspect of life which we often ignore, in the form of modern and accessible art which stirs our emotions and interest.
I believe in the transformation of the ephemeral in timeless and wish to enchant and inspire. Each work can continue to live and continue to be torn apart to become your personal work, thus dispossessing me of its first creation and I undertake to help you to do so.
